Why Apple Products are So Expensive
In a typical argument regarding
the Operating Systems, you might have heard anyone blaming Apple’s Product for
their overhyped, overpriced features of product and software. Most of the
people keep asking “Why Apple products are so expensive?”, but nobody has a
direct concrete answer.
Everyone has their own
experiences with brands, and this is a recount of my own with Apple. If there
is one thing that can be said about Apple products, it is that they are
expensive. But maybe there is a reason why they are so expensive maybe it is
because they are very reliable.
Well, if you are looking on to
the sum of hardware specifications of the Apple product, you surely are going
against purchasing them. A Windows-running laptop with same hardware specs
onboard will cost way lesser than a MacBook. However, there are a lot of facts
that make the Apple product unique from other conventional non Apple products.
Design & Build Quality.
Apple manufactures MacBook series
“laptops” with the finest quality, as a premium product. The Macbooks have the
metal unibody design, carved out of aluminum blocks. As they do not have many
screws and patches like in standard laptops, you always don’t have to worry
about its durability. Additionally, the hinge system with torsion bar reduces
the impacts due to continuous open-and-shut.
Another design aspect that Mac
users often mention is its backlit keyboard. All the variants of Macbook have
the white LED backlit keyboard, which makes the work more comfortable, especially
for writers and programmers.
When it comes to their phones,
for instance, the iPhone 8 is almost exactly the same as their laptops. It’s
still your typical slab, with rounded corners and curved edges. The aluminium
rear, which has been around since the iPhone 6, has been ditched for a glass
panel here that feels very similar to the front.
In fact, durability and design is
always a key concern. As just a single aspect of the product manufacturing
process, it has a surprisingly wide reaching set of implications. This includes
not just the practical advantages it offers, but also the economical and
environmental benefits it provides too. Despite been more economically, Obviously,
the physical durability of a product has lots of immediate practical advantages
to its end users. For this reasons this made their product value and when it
become valuable it become more expensive.
Operating System Matter
The name “MacOS” is enough to
describe the reason behind Macbook’s uniqueness. The macOS (lately Mac OS X) outruns
the Windows Operating System in many aspects so despite the fact im Windows OS
User. It is the point that makes Macbooks worth buying. First of all, Apple’s
MacOS is much better in maintaining the user data security and protection from
attacks. The Unix, macOS root, resembles more towards Linux than Windows. So,
from my experience, virus attacks and malware affections are rarely seen on their
Operating System likewise their smartphones OS.
The entire operating system and
hardware consolidation are optimized for maximum performance a low power. Hence
with all those “underpowered” hardware, a MacBook can overtake the Windows PC.
It also helps in gaining around 9 hours of long battery life, which is merely
not achievable in every other laptop having the same hardware and even same
battery capacity. So the next time you compare macOS with Windows OS, remember
the optimization level achieved by each of them. As a result of this, this also
contribute in overhyped price.
Display
Apple when it comes to here they
make elegant displays, engineered in a beautiful way for each unit they sell. Look
round every Macbooks, except the low-budget MacBook Air, have the company’s
signature “Retina Display“. The MacBook Air comes with a typical HD LED-Backlit
widescreen display, supporting multiple resolutions. Coming to the top models,
MacBook and MacBook Pro have much greater Retina Displays. They have deep color
space, millions of pixel colors and the pixel density over 230 PPI.
Additionally take look at IPhone
8 Plus The color reproduction is improved as well, with Apple focusing on what
actually makes the screen look good rather than pushing the pixels for the sake
of the spec sheet... but a boost to Full HD would have made an actual
difference to the quality and clarity.
Games and videos look bright and
vivid though, and the screen itself is responsive, giving a solid overall
experience. It’s hard to knock the screen on its own merits, as it’s only when
you put it alongside rivals that it lacks the same clarity
User Satisfaction
Apple products (to be honest) are
highly satisfying, enough to impress a typical user who just moved to the Mac
from Windows/Linux. Unlike any other non Apple products, there will be no lags
and unexpected freezing. Also, with the Siri integration, you can get the best
of Apple’s extra software features on their devices.
A lot of that
"reluctance" to embrace Apple's well-regarded approach to customers
that VanAmburg spoke of may come down to the roots of these companies. Some are
much more technically oriented than customer oriented, which has a sizable
effect on how they prioritize, said Ira Kalb, clinical marketing professor at
the USC Marshall School of Business.
"The reason that a lot of these companies don't copy Apple's customer service is they don't realize how important it is, that's the big one," Kalb said. "They look at it as a cost rather than a return on investment item."
Though it sounds obvious that the
customer being taken care of should be a primary concern for any company
dealing in consumer goods, it's not always followed, he said. "A lot of
these computer companies in particular were started and run by technical
people, who are notorious for caring about technology over customers."
Conclusion
These are the primary reasons why
Apple product are so expensive usually. Apple prices their products high by
offering premium quality, brilliant support, and hardware that lasts for long.
The price is not just for the hardware, but also for the OS and after-sales
service. This idea might appear odd to some people but the reality is Apple, as
a group of individuals, designs and makes products that they love to use.
Unlike other device makers, Apple follows a tightly focused approach than a ‘something for everybody’
approach, which focuses on quality and
overall user experience. This also means that majority of the product lines are
targeted at high-end category.
Apple provides excellent after
sales service for each product costumer purchase. Typically, Apple MacBook,
MacBook Air or MacBook Pro comes with a limited warranty of one year. It only
covers the software related issues and other problems. You can get assistance
from the company support side anytime during the Warranty period. With the
AppleCare extended warranty, you can also avail the onsite repair by Apple
customer service experts.
That is to say Apple, in
comparison to its competitors making PCs and smartphone, has an ecosystem of
hardware connected by its own software, iOS, iTunes, and Mac OS X. Apple has
total control over its products and has been able to branch out to other types
of devices beyond desktops and laptops. PC makers are somewhat beholden to the
product cycles of Microsoft and are seen as just that, PC makers--not consumer
device makers.
Now, I’m sure there will be
someone out there who has had a completely different experience than me with
Apple, and I’m sure they will voice their opinion in the comments (which I highly
encourage to). I too realize that Apple has had some fairly serious issues with
recent products failing. But you have to admire the fact that the company tries
its best to make it right when things do go wrong.
